• AVON GROVE LIONS CLUB The Avon - Grove Lions Club has always been known as a "Working Club." It takes great pride from the fact that its many projects have been made possible only by the participation of each and every member. No Lion is solicited for funds for service projects. As is permissible in other Service Clubs — Dues ten cent fines and meal costs are the only financial expenses of being a Lion — All funds for service projects are raised by money making activities. Traditionally every club vice-president develops, plans, organizes, and directs one money making project each year. Only after great study and thought does a Lion's Club president make a re-quest of a member — It is traditional, therefore that no member refuse a re-quest of the president. Traditionally Lions never call a fellow - Lion by the title of "Mister". But by his first name or nickname. Lions by-laws forbid the discussion of partisan politics, or religion. Traditionally a Lion rising to speak in a meeting, precedes his discussion by the appellation of "President and the title and names of other Lion dignitaries present before proceeding. It is an Avon-Grove Lions Club tradition that any Lion leaving a meeting early excuse himself to the Club president and the speaker of the evening. Traditionally Lions rise on the introduction of any Lion dignitary — and that they introduce themselves and shake hands at the end of the meeting with such officials as The District Governor, Citation winners and others who are being honored by our Club. One does not join a Lions Club for financial gain. Every president of our club is privileged to donate on the spot — up to $50.00 of Club funds to families desolated by fire and to others who, due to sudden misfortune are left in dire straits. Traditionally Fun, Fellowship, and Fraternity dominate all our meetings — The handshake of welcome, congratulations when in order, and when Lions sing everybody sings" are accepted as Club responsibilities. The community has accepted the fact that our Lions Club can do anything it sets its mind to — None of our projects has ever proved to be a failure — This is a worthy tradition to uphold. It is traditional in all Lions Cubs that every possible effort is made by the membership — through attendance and participation — to assure that each president has a successful year. |
