Dediction of the new
Low Vision Center
at the Avon Grove Library
September 23, 2006

The Avon Grove Lions Club donated a SmartView video magnifier at the Avon Grove Library.  This is the first equipment of its kind in the Chester County Library system.

This device magnifies words up to 60x the original size and has numerous color and contrast settings specially made for low vision problems such as macular degeneration.  In addition, the SmartView can also magnify 3d objects such as a pill container.

Anybody with visual problems should be encouraged to use this device.  Every book, magazine and newspaper suddenly becomes a "large print edition".  Instruments such as the SmartView open up a wide variety of media previously unaccessible to the visually impaired.
